Dr. Mary Um is the owner and lead clinician of the Ivy Endodontic Group, with offices in Irvine and Garden Grove, California. She also serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Endodontics and Periodontics at the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry, University of Southern California.

Dr. Um is an active leader in the field of endodontics, having served on the American Association of Endodontists (AAE) Professional and Public Relations Committee, the Continuing Education Committee, and as Co-Chair of the Surgical Workshop. She currently contributes as the Workshop Chair for the Annual Meeting Planning Committee.

Dr. Um earned a Health Professional Scholarship from the United States Air Force, where she served on active duty in Idaho, Texas, and Qatar before being honorably discharged. She received her Doctor of Dental Science degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine and completed her endodontic residency and a Master’s in Oral Science at the University of Illinois Chicago College of Dentistry.

In addition to private practice, Dr. Um has served as a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Illinois Chicago College of Dentistry and as faculty for the General Dentistry Residency program at NorthShore University HealthSystem’s Evanston Hospital.

Although she admits she isn’t particularly good at them, Dr. Um enjoys trying new physical activities and challenges herself to stay active. She is a passionate cook, often experimenting with new recipes, and an avid reader who enjoys nonfiction, history, and science fiction. In her spare time, Dr. Um also pursues artistic projects, finding creative outlets beyond her professional work.
